My grandfather told me this story; for some reason I thought the hotel was in Seattle (where he lived), but he traveled quite a bit so it could have been anywhere. As a girl, I often asked him to tell me the story again and again. I found your blog while trying to find the Meatball song (I already have "Shoot the Sherbert to Me, Herbert") to play at his funeral next week. I hope you find proof this occurred. It would be lovely to see a childhood fancy become real.
