Hide the Children; Blog readers beware--Texas is worried you might encounter an opposing thought
"People need to be very careful with what they read in the blogs. Most blogs seem to be run with a pretty severe liberal bent." Link: Blogs driving latest Capitol flap.
This quote is from Robert Black, spokesperson for Texas Governor Rick Perry. Mr. Black is concerned that liberal blogs might lead good people astray. Unlike conservative blogs, which as everyone knows are fact-based pillars of moral rectitude.
Mentioning Jeff Gannon, too easy of a shot, I know. But here's more from Mr. Black:
"The general public has to realize on blogs . . . there are no controls on accuracy or honesty. And there's no accountability."
Conversely, the State of Texas, with all its controls is always honest and accountable.
Least you be shocked by my state's Luddite reaction to ideas, please understand that here in Texas we are afraid to teach our children basic sex education. We're afraid what might happen if we teach them about pregnancy and disease, so Texas teaches abstinence only to our kids.
And what happens when you keep the truth from people?
See this recent Reuters story regarding sex ed in Texas: "Teen sex increased after abstinence program"
"The study showed about 23 percent of ninth-grade girls, typically 13 to 14 years old, had sex before receiving abstinence education. After taking the course, 29 percent of the girls in the same group said they had had sex.
"Boys in the tenth grade, about 14 to 15 years old, showed a more marked increase, from 24 percent to 39 percent, after receiving abstinence education.
"Abstinence-only programs, which have sprouted up in schools across the nation, cannot offer information about birth control and must promote the social and health benefits of abstaining from sex."
Do I need to mention that this is a conservative-lead program?
Mr. Black, the blogosphere will monitor itself, thank you. Now please go ask your boss to educate our children.

well said. nice work.
